Publication of the 120th issue of the "Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur": Our immunity, the key to tackling cancer?

The latest issue of the quarterly newsletter for Institut Pasteur donors – the Lettre de l'Institut Pasteur (LIP) – contains a special feature on novel immunotherapies for cancer, which harness the body's immune response to tackle tumors.

Cancer is currently the leading cause of death in France, but it is by no means a modern disease. It is a biological phenomenon that has accompanied the evolution of life for millions of years, and our bodies have developed strategies to stop it from spreading. The immune system is capable of recognizing and destroying cancer cells, as it does for foreign bodies. Although conventional cancer treatments have not made use of our body's resources, progress in research is today opening up new possibilities for cancer patients, especially via immunotherapy.
