BICENTENARY

Outstanding veterinary corpus hosted on the Persée portal to mark the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth

To mark the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur, the French Veterinary Academy (a member of the General Bicentenary Committee) has taken the initiative of publishing an outstanding veterinary corpus on Persée, the portal developed by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research which serves as a free and open platform for accessing and using entire collections of scientific publications.

The bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth is an opportunity to raise awareness about the history of the veterinary profession in the context of the 19th century, especially its shift to a more scientific approach, which saw the "veterinary artist" elevated to the status of a "scientist" whose skills in terms of hygiene and public health were fully recognized.

In 2021, the French Veterinary Academy, with the support of the library at the Alfort National Veterinary School, decided to compile a corpus on veterinary sciences, aimed at veterinarians, physicians and also researchers in history, legal affairs and social sciences, which would be made available free of charge and on an open access basis via the Persée portal.

In agreement with Persée, the aim is to offer access to all the forerunners of the Bulletin de l’Académie Vétérinaire de France, which has been accessible on the portal since June 25, 2021. La Clinique Vétérinaire (1844-1847 then 1861-1868), the Bulletin de la Société Centrale de Médecine Vétérinaire (SCMV) (1846-1927), the Mémoires de la SCMV (1852-1882), the Annuaire du cinquantenaire de la SCMV (1894) and the Recueil de Médecine Vétérinaire (1824 to 1999) will now be integrated into the platform.

Priority will be given to texts from the period 1877-1885, in connection with the Pasteur bicentenary year.
