CORONAVIRUS

Diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2 infection

The COVID-19 outbreak requires research and subsequent industrial development to produce specific diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Ideally, these tests should be both reliable and simple and quick to administer.

Since the start of the outbreak, as of May 20, 2020, 46 RT-PCR tests and 41 serological tests have been evaluated by the National Reference Center (CNR Institut Pasteur and CNR associated laboratory at the Hospices Civils de Lyon). Reports on the CNR's evaluations have been sent to the French health authorities, which are responsible for establishing a methodology for approving these tests and drawing up a first list of approved in vitro medical diagnostic tests based on the CNR's evaluations and the specifications issued by the French National Authority for Health.

A list of PCR tests approved by the health authorities is published on the website of the Société Française de Microbiologie, a leading source of reference for medical biologists.

With regard to the list of serological tests approved by the health authorities, an order was published on May 20 setting out the role of the Ministry of Solidarity and Health, the ANSM, the CNR and the National Authority for Health in organizing serological testing.

The entire list of approved RT-PCR, LAMP, serological and rapid tests is available on the platform of the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. A press release was published alongside the list.
