Save the date – Upcoming CeRIS training sessions

  • Remote training – Drawing up a data management plan for a research project, Wednesday May 22, 2024 from 2 to 4.30pm* (in English)

Do you need to draft a Data Management Plan (DMP) for your project without actually knowing what one is? Have you found yourself wondering how a DMP might be useful for you? Or have you had difficulties answering the questions you need to cover in a DMP?

This session is for you!
The session will show you how to produce a data management plan (DMP), a document often required by funding bodies such as the ANR and the European Commission, which sets out details about how you plan to manage your research data during your project. You will find out how DMPs can be a valuable tool throughout the research process and learn some helpful data management best practices. Finally, the training session will show you how to use a tool to draw up your DMP collaboratively: DMP OPIDoR.

Aims of the training:
•    Familiarize yourself with the aims of a DMP
•    Clarify the questions that you need to address in a DMP
•    Learn about data management best practices
•    Learn how to use a tool to draw up a DMP collaboratively

The training session is aimed at scientists, engineers, postdoctoral fellows and project managers who may need to produce a DMP for their research project.

It will take place remotely (via Microsoft Teams) in English.

  • In-person training – Introduction to alternative forms of open access publication, Thursday May 23, 2024 from 2 to 4.30pm* (in French)

Do you want to publish your research transparently and facilitate reproducibility?

There are a number of alternative formats to traditional research articles, such as executable papers, data papers, software papers, lab protocols and registered reports. And to find your way around these different publication types and understand the differences between them, why not come to a training session on the topic!

This training session will help you:
•    Familiarize yourself with five alternative forms of open access publication;
•    Understand how these publication types support open, reproducible science;
•    Choose the publication type that is best suited to your needs.

The maximum number of participants is 12; spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • In-person training – Finding a data repository to share and give visibility to your research data, Wednesday June 5, 2024 from 2 to 4pm and Tuesday June 12, 2024 from 2 to 3.30pm* (in English)

 Do you want to publish the raw data related to a research paper? Is the funding body for your project asking you to share your data based on the principle "as open as possible, as closed as necessary"? Do you want to make your data available to the scientific community to improve the reproducibility of your research?

Data repositories are the most efficient solution to meet your needs: depending on the repository you choose, you can make your data openly accessible or subject to controlled access. And there's nothing better than a training course to help you find your way around the many repositories out there!

The course will help you to:
•    understand how data repositories work and what they are for;
•    find a repository that meets your needs;
•    draw up a comparative list of different repositories.

Combining theory and practice, the training course takes place over two sessions. Between the sessions you will have the opportunity to analyze and test a repository and to ask the trainer any questions via Teams.

The training is aimed at any scientists who produce data and want to share their data via repositories.

Before you sign up:
•    Make sure you will be able to take part in both sessions.
•    The maximum number of participants is 8; spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
