Relaunch of the MOOC entitled "Emerging and Re-emerging Viruses" updated with a COVID-19 module

Emerging and re-emerging viruses are among the major pathogenic agents behind recent epidemics, as seen in the recent episodes of Ebola, chikungunya, influenza, Zika, dengue, SARS and MERS and, just lately, COVID-19.

How do new human viruses emerge? What conditions favor re-emergence? Where do we stand with COVID-19?

The Institut Pasteur provides some answers to these questions in the MOOC entitled "Emerging and Re-Emerging Viruses" which will be relaunched in "self-paced" mode from May 31 to September 30. No certificate is issued for attendance of this MOOC. The next certified MOOC is scheduled for early 2022 in connection with the Institut Pasteur Online Diploma in Infectious Diseases (DNM2IP ; see the diagram).

This MOOC presents the different viruses involved in viral emergence, and describes the molecular mechanisms and conditions responsible for this emergence. They range from the emergence of viral mutations to the consequences of climate change, and the impact of urbanization and changes in human activity and behavior.

New: This MOOC relaunch also illustrates the latest knowledge relating to the COVID-19 outbreak:
•    data on the virology, epidemiology and vaccinology of COVID-19;
•   latest discoveries about the structural determinants of SARS-CoV-2 for developing therapeutic monoclonal antibodies;
•    impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the central nervous system.

You are all invited to the Webinar dedicated exclusively to the MOOC's COVID-19 module on September 14 at 2pm. This webinar will be an opportunity for the scientists involved in this module, Olivier Schwartz, Arnaud Fontanet, Christiane Gerke, Felix Rey and Guilherme Dias De Melo, and for the Scientific Director of the Institut Pasteur, Christophe D’Enfert, to directly answer your questions in the MOOC forum and during the webinar. The webinar will also offer the chance to provide the latest scientific updates and news on the COVID-19 topics covered in the MOOC.
