Institut Pasteur supported by the 158th Hospices de Beaune wine auction

On Sunday November 18, the 158th Hospices de Beaune wine auction took place in Beaune, Burgundy. This famous charity auction is held on the third Sunday in November each year, attracting wine industry professionals and enthusiasts from all over the world. A good 2018 harvest saw 828 barrels up for auction (each barrel holds the equivalent of 288 bottles).

Since 2005, British auction house Christie's has conducted the sale. Although all the proceeds from this charity auction go to the hospital in Beaune, each year since 1945 the Hospices de Beaune have also supported one or more charities by donating the proceeds from the sale of a special barrel, the "Pièce du Président". For the very first time, the Institut Pasteur was one of the beneficiaries of this charity auction, alongside the charities Asmae – Sister Emmanuelle Association and BAB.

The actress Nathalie Baye and Erik Orsenna, a writer and member of the French Academy, represented the Institut Pasteur at this prestigious event, showing their dedication by taking over as auctioneers for this special barrel and rallying the crowd.

The amount raised for the Institut Pasteur was an impressive €80,000.
