Registration now open for the third edition of the "Resistance to antibacterial agents" MOOC

The online courses division is pleased to invite you to sign up for the third edition of the "Resistance to antibacterial agents" MOOC, from January 10 to March 14, 2023, led by Didier Mazel, Patrick Trieu-Cuot and Béatrice Berçot.

In 2016, WHO estimated that if no measures were taken, by 2050 as many as ten million people could die each year from drug-resistant infections. This led WHO to declare that the emergence and spread of bacteria resistant to antibacterial agents represented "a growing threat to public health worldwide, requiring action across all sectors and throughout society." The "Resistance to antibacterial agents" MOOC addresses the major public health problem represented by the emergence of multi-drug resistant bacteria, which are increasing the morbidity and mortality of a wide range of bacterial infections.

The MOOC aims to provide basic knowledge about the origin and spread of resistance to antibacterial agents, the identification of resistance and the impact it has. The course presents the epidemiology of resistance in humans, animals and the environment. It looks at the concepts that have been devised to bring the problem under control, from a "one health" perspective. Finally, the MOOC will explore alternatives to antibiotics and the latest drugs available.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
•    Explain how antibiotic resistance emerges and spreads and the dramatic consequences it has.
•    Describe the epidemiology of resistance in humans, animals and the environment.
•    Apply laboratory methods to diagnose and identify antibiotic resistance.
•    Follow recommendations to prevent the emergence of resistance in humans and livestock through the adoption of more effective measures to control antibiotic prescription.
•    Examine ways of replacing antibiotics or bringing new antibacterial drugs to market.
