WOMEN AND SCIENCE

Launch of the Springboard program for women in leadership

The Women and Science project, a key part of the Strategic Plan, was set up to encourage the representation of female scientists at the Institut Pasteur and increase the number of women in positions of scientific responsibility.

To help encourage career development and leadership among women, the Institut Pasteur has recently launched the Springboard program. This measure was one of the recommendations from the Women and Science working group.

As part of the program, a first four-day training module entitled "Professional Development and Leadership for Women" is being run on campus. On November 16, a group of 15 female post-doctoral fellows participated in the first session, which was appreciated for the quality of the content and discussions. Three further sessions will follow.

Two additional groups are being set up for female scientists, PhD students and post-doctoral fellows.

  • The "PhD students/post-doctoral fellows" group will be launched on December 3, 2020

  • The "Scientists" group will be launched on December 18, 2020

Springboard, set up 25 years ago in the UK, is a program that encourages career development and leadership for women. It combines several teaching methods in four day-long sessions held over a four-month period. Some 250,000 women have already followed the program worldwide (including coaching from the female laureates of the L'Oréal For Women in Science program, adopted by Inserm and the CEA).
