Find out about the Student Life Office: focus on accommodation

The Student Life Office, established in September 2025 within the Department of Education, has three key missions:

  1. To propose accommodation solutions for all staff arriving in Paris.

  2. To offer training for PhD students at the Institut Pasteur.

  3. To manage and co-manage predoctoral programs at the national and international levels.

More accommodation options and an easier application procedure

The accommodation program, coordinated by the Housing Office, is based on strong partnerships. Alongside the longstanding partnership with Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris (CIUP), new partnerships have been established with the ALFI association and Nexity Studéa.

  • The ALFI residences are exclusively for PhD students, interns and dual-education students, because of limited resources and age restrictions.

  • The Nexity residences are open to all Institut Pasteur staff, regardless of age.

Tools to help find accommodation

The Student Life Office and the Housing Office have introduced several tools to simplify procedures and improve transparency:

  • A single form (compulsory): all requests for accommodation run by the three partners must be made via this form. The Housing Office will not process requests sent by other means.

  • An updated accommodation guide: contains answers to the most frequently asked questions about accommodation at the Institut Pasteur.

  • Dedicated FAQ: contains answers to the most frequently asked questions about accommodation at the Institut Pasteur.

  • A dedicated email address – accommodation@pasteur.fr: centralizes all questions. Given the large number of messages received, an automatic reply is sent to confirm receipt and encourage the sender to check whether the question has already been answered in the FAQ.

  • A form for accommodation solutions between Institut Pasteur staff: this enables Institut Pasteur staff to propose accommodation to their colleagues – rentals, house or flat shares, or sublets.

Feedback from first residents

In conjunction with the PhD Students Division, the Student Life Office and the Housing Office have already allocated accommodation to PhD students in the ALFI Tolbiac and Nexity Studéa Monnet residences:

"I have been living at Nexity Studéa Jean Monnet (38 rue Raymond Marcheron) in Vanves since July, and so far I am very happy with my experience. Stefaniia Ivashchenko, Jean Mandart and the entire Housing Office team were extremely helpful and helped me find a new place to live very quickly, which saved me a lot of time and stress.
The studio is cozy, well appointed and contains everything I need for a comfortable student life. The residence itself is quiet and has useful facilities like shared washing machines and a small gym. The price seems in line with other studios I have seen on the market.
It is ideally situated – Vanves is just outside Paris and is well served by metro line 13 and train line N. I can reach the Institut Pasteur in 20 minutes by public transport, or opt for a pleasant 30 to 40-minute walk. Vanves is a peaceful, green village, with a lot of open spaces and parks. There are also several supermarkets and self-service laundries.
I have also been offered the option of extending my rental contract, which I really appreciated. Overall I am very happy with my accommodation."

"My experience living at the ALFI residence at 35 rue de Tolbiac is going well so far. Although it is not as close to the Institut Pasteur campus as the CIUP, it is still less than half an hour away and offers cozy accommodation for a cheaper price!
Jean Mandart and Stefaniia Ivashchenko at the Housing Office took care of my move to the new residence following termination of my previous lease agreement, avoiding me the stress usually associated with finding somewhere to live – especially in Paris –, and I am very grateful."

Alexander Tendu, resident at ALFI Tolbiac
