Upcoming "Science and Society" seminar on December 12

The upcoming "Science and Society" seminar, entitled "Health and digital technologies – the ethical implications" will take place on December 12, 2018 at 6pm in the François Jacob auditorium. The speaker will be Claude Kirchner.

The digital revolution is having a major impact on society worldwide. Its effects are also being felt in the health industry, which is now strongly influenced by science, technology and digital innovations and practices. The many ethical implications of these developments affect everyone involved in our health system: users, patients and all healthcare workers, including doctors. The French National Consultative Ethics Committee analyzed this situation in its Opinion 129 and proposed recommendations that may be included in the proposed review of the Bioethics Act.

Claude Kirchner is an Emeritus Director of Research at the French National Institute for Computer Science and Applied Mathematics (Inria). He was CEO of Inria from 2010 to 2014. He chairs Inria's Operational Committee for the Assessment of Legal and Ethical Risks and is a member of the Allistene Committee for the Study of Research Ethics in Digital Sciences and Technologies (CERNA) and of the National Consultative Ethics Committee for health and life sciences (CCNE). He is also a member of the steering committee of the Center for Direct Scientific Communication (CCSD), which runs the HAL open archive.
