Jean-Marc Ghigo elected President of the Scientific Council

At the meeting of the Scientific Council on October 5 and 6, the members elected Jean-Marc Ghigo as Chair of the Scientific Council for a two-year term. He takes over from Arnaud Echard, whose term had expired.

Jean-Marc Ghigo is Professor at the Institut Pasteur (Paris, France) and heads the Genetics of Biofilms Unit in the Microbiology Department. He obtained his PhD in 1994 and was appointed research assistant at the Institut Pasteur in 1995, followed by a postdoctoral stay at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. Returning to the Institut Pasteur in 1999, he developed the study of bacterial communities called biofilms within the framework of a 5-year group (2002-2007) and then a Research Unit (2007-).
Jean-Marc Ghigo was awarded the Prix Jacques Monod in 1993, the Prix Georges Zermati from the Fondation de France in 2008 and the Prix Pasteur-Vallery Radot from the Académie des Sciences in 2012. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (2016) and of the European Academy of Microbiology (2017).

He was a member of the COMESP from 2008 to 2012 and has been an elected member of the Scientific Council since 2017, serving as secretary twice (2017-2019 and 2021-2023).

On the occasion of this election, Caroline Demangel became the Vice President, and Michaela Müller-Trutwin became the secretary of the Scientific Council.
