Dr. François Ballet is chairman of the Project Evaluation Committee at Medicen Paris Region

François holds an MD degree from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. He is hepato-gastroenterologist. He worked at INSERM (French National Institute of Health) as a head of a research team on liver physiology and pharmacology and at Saint-Antoine University Hospital as a consulting hepato-gastroenterologist from 1979 for ten years.  In 1989, he joined Rhône-Poulenc Rorer in the Drug Safety department as a senior toxicologist. Then he became a director of Investigative and Genetic Toxicology, and he was appointed head of the Drug Safety department in 1996. In 1999, following the merger of Rhône-Poulenc Rorer and Hoechst Marion Roussel, he was appointed Vice-President of the new Aventis Pharma R&D Site Operations in France and UK. In this position, he managed the integration and reorganization of the R&D activities and sites of the former companies in France and UK which led to the creation of several spin-off biotech companies. In 2005 following the merger of Sanofi and Aventis he was appointed Head of Vitry, Alfortville and Evry research centers in France and in 2007 he became Scientific Secretary General of International Development and Medical Affairs of Sanofi-Aventis R&D.

En 2010, he rejoined Medicen, the Paris international bio-cluster, as director of the R&D committee. From 2012 to 2016 he was president of the board of directors of the IHU (Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire) ICAN (Institut de Cardiométabolisme et nutrition), one of the 7 IHU financed by the PIA (Plan d’Investissement d’Avenir).
