24th edition of the Utopiales international sci-fi festival. Ask for your free ticket!

For the third year in a row, the Institut Pasteur is an official partner of the international Utopiales festival, which promotes science fiction as an educational tool to explore the real world. The 24th edition of the festival will be held this year from November 1 to 5 at La Cité Nantes Congress Center. Once again this year, several Institut Pasteur scientists will take part in the round tables.

The festival brings together scientists, authors, screenwriters, illustrators and directors. It is aimed at both professionals and the general public with the aim of opening up imaginations and shaping new reflections on our past, present and future. Throughout the festival, the public are given the opportunity to attend a wide variety of lectures, round tables, discussion sessions, film screenings and exhibitions. Games, scientific workshops, book signings and festivities also feature.

The theme of this year's edition is "Transmission(s)." It will be based around four aspects: sharing, heritage, propagation and interruption. Utopiales 2023 will explore notions related to transmission, looking at the concepts of sharing and heritage – both what we receive and what we pass on. The festival will focus on means of transmission, whether they serve to propagate or break with existing paradigms, that enable humanity to muddle through to the unknown and beyond.

The Utopiales festival gives the Institut Pasteur the opportunity to involve its scientists in discussions that use science fiction as a tool to explore the real world, reflecting the determination of the Institut Pasteur's scientists to open science up to society. This year, five Institut Pasteur scientists will take part in the discussions and debates at eight round tables.

To celebrate the partnership between the Utopiales and the Institut Pasteur, the festival is offering Institut Pasteur staff free entry to one day of the four-day festival (people are free to choose the day they prefer). Tickets can be booked now – note that available spaces are limited (only one ticket will be allocated per person) and that travel to the festival is at your own cost.

To book your ticket, send an email to utopiales@pasteur.fr.

Since the number of available spaces is limited, tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If your registration is successful, you will receive a confirmation email with information about how to collect your day pass.

This is a great opportunity to go along and see Institut Pasteur scientists participating in an internationally renowned event!
