Leptospirosis is treatable in the first few days after the onset of illness using inexpensive, widely available antibiotics.
This is also the case for other bacterial zoonotic diseases that mainly affect tropical regions, but often such conditions are not taken into consideration or are poorly treated because they are confused with malaria or viral fevers.
The article published by the IPNC and the Institut Pasteur in Paris examines the research priorities, especially the need for an ecosystemic One Health approach that recognizes the link between health and environment, and the importance of additional awareness-raising efforts to help affected populations.
