Michael White and Aurèle Piazza awarded 2019 ERC Starting Grants

On September 3, the European Research Council (ERC) announced the 408 junior European researchers selected for 2019 Starting Grants.

The 41 French projects listed include two projects under way at the Institut Pasteur:

  • MultiSeroSurv (Algorithms and multiplex assays for integrated serological surveillance of malaria and neglected tropical diseases) led by Michael White of the Malaria: Parasites and Hosts Unit,

  • 3D-loop (Mechanism of homology search and the logic of homologous chromosome pairing in meiosis), led by the CNRS and directed by Aurèle Piazza, of the Spatial Regulation of Genomes Unit.

ERC Starting Grants support research projects on ambitious and high-risk topics and are awarded for five years to a selection of early-career researchers with two to seven years’ experience since completion of their PhD. The funds are aimed at supporting the scientists in building their own research teams to work on an original topic.
