Call for applications for new research units (U5) at the Institut Pasteur

Institut Pasteur wishes to create a limited number of new research units (U5) on its Paris campus. The call for projects is open to permanent scientists from Institut Pasteur or other institutions  who have been working full time (or with a main affiliation at Institut Pasteur) on the campus  for at least 2 years, and whose PhD was obtained more than 8 years ago (younger scientists can apply to the G5 calls). These units will be created for 5 years and will be composed of up to 6 persons. At the end of the 5 year period, heads of U5 may apply for a classical research Unit.

Applicants will first send a letter of intent (LOI) as a pdf file to U5-2018@pasteur.fr, before November 16, 2018. This letter should be written in English and organized as follows:

  1. cover page, bearing the name of the candidate and the intended name of the future unit;

  2. a one page presentation and summary of past and current activities;

  3. a one page presentation of the research project;

  4. CV of the applicant including a complete list of publications

The template can be downloaded on Webcampus.

The candidate shall ask her/his unit director and department director to each send a confidential statement to U5-2018@pasteur.fr. The CODIS will select the LOI’s that fit both the usual international quality criteria, as well as Institut Pasteur’s thematic areas and specific strategic priorities. Institut Pasteur is an equal opportunity employer, particularly regarding equality between women and men.

Selected candidates will be notified at the end of December 2018 and invited to submit a full application before February 22, 2019 (a template will be provided). These applications will be reviewed (by mail) by adhoc external experts. These candidates will then be auditioned by the Scientific Council during its June 2019 session.

Selected U5’s will be allocated a technician (via internal mobility), possibly an equipment budget (depending on the specific situation of the candidate), a running cost budget based on ongoing rules at Institut Pasteur, and part-time secretary assistance.

Candidates not selected after being auditioned by the Scientific Council may submit an application to the next call. Candidates not shortlisted for audition by the Scientific Council will have to skip one call prior to submitting a new application.

Questions should be addressed to: U5-2018@pasteur.fr
