Come along to the open day of the Institut Pasteur's fabrication laboratory on October 2 and find out what the Fab Lab can do for you!

Nearly two years ago, the Institut Pasteur boosted the prototyping capabilities of scientists on its Paris campus by setting up a fabrication laboratory, or "Fab Lab", a collaborative space for the development of varied, innovative projects designed to provide answers to scientific enigmas.

Now part of the Technical Department in the Technical Resources and Environment Department and run by prototyping engineer Albane Imbert, the Fab Lab aims to provide expert support throughout the project cycle, from identification of needs to prototype design. The Fab Lab and its team are on hand to offer guidance and specific training and to work with you to get your projects off the ground.

With specialists in a wide range of fields and a battery of machines and software specially designed for prototyping, such as 3D printers and numerical control machines, the Fab Lab has so far provided support for some 66 projects in a range of research fields including cell culture, imaging, microfluidics and virology.

The Fab Lab is growing all the time; it recently moved to a new facility so that it can offer more independent access to scientists wanting to use the resources and equipment available at the platform. This new space is open to everyone!

To showcase its services and present its new premises in the glass atrium in the Metchnikoff building, the Fab Lab and its team are pleased to invite you to an open day on Tuesday October 2, from 2 to 6pm. Come discuss prototyping over coffee or other refreshment, learning what it can offer research and admiring the state-of-the-art equipment that is constantly being added to the Fab Lab so that it can meet your needs as effectively as possible.

The organizers of the open day will also be revealing the name chosen for the Institut Pasteur fabrication laboratory – a facility and a team at your service!

The afternoon will conclude with an inaugural cocktail reception starting at 5pm.

We hope that lots of you will be able to come along to this open day!
