Job shadowing scheme for final-year middle school students at the Institut Pasteur: "Collège3" program aimed at the next generation of scientists
The Institut Pasteur is running a job shadowing scheme to encourage final-year middle school students (aged 14-15) to come and find out more about careers in science. The "Collège3" scheme, already carried out with success in previous years, is being repeated by the Institut Pasteur Education Department for the 2017-18 academic year.
A total of 50 middle school students will be hosted on the Institut Pasteur campus, in two sessions – the first from December 18 to 22, 2017, and the second from February 12 to 16, 2018.
Registration opened on September 1.
To facilitate the job shadowing scheme, all the administrative procedures and the general organization of the week-long sessions – which include campus tours and activities – will be dealt with by the "Collège3" team in the Education Department. The students will spend half the week in scientific units and the rest of the time attending the various activities arranged for them as part of the program, designed to give them an introduction to the field of biology research, related professions, the Institut Pasteur and its work in France and worldwide.
Each session will include:

a welcome seminar and training in preventing work-related risks,

a tour of the Education Center,

a tour of the Pasteur Museum,

thematic placements – the students will be divided into small groups within the units and platforms on campus, where they will be given a taste of the different careers available.
This program will help boost the Institut Pasteur's visibility and community engagement by forging links with future generations of scientists and their families.
