HAL-Pasteur, Zotero, PubMed, My NCBI: check out the training offered by the CeRIS in September

  • In-person training: Submitting publications to HAL-Pasteur, Wednesday September 13, 2023, 2-4pm* (in French)

In this practical training course, you will explore the structure and workings of HAL, the French national platform for submitting, sharing and consulting scientific publications, so that you can learn to use it as effectively as possible.

Aims of the training

The course will help you to:

•    Understand how HAL works
•    Manage your account, profile and researcher ID on the platform
•    Use the search and export functions and the myHAL tool
•    Submit your publications to HAL-Pasteur

Topics covered

•    The terminology and context of open access
•    The Institut Pasteur's policy for submitting publications to HAL-Pasteur
•    The structure and workings of HAL
•    Exploring the user interface: searching and exporting
•    Managing your researcher digital ID in HAL
•    Submitting publications to HAL-Pasteur, best practices and possibilities
•    The HCERES tool and HAL

The training is open to all without any prior requirements.

It will take place in person and be in French.

  • Remote workshop – Bibliographic tools – a practical guide, Wednesday September 20, 2023, 10am to 12pm* (open to French- and English-speakers)

The aim of bibliography management software is to simplify the task of managing bibliographical references for scientists writing articles. With a host of software available – including EndNote, JabRef, Mendeley and Zotero –, how can you tell which will be best suited to your needs?

The workshop will help you find your way around bibliography management software by presenting the specific features of each of these tools.

This workshop is aimed at all those looking for guidance in choosing bibliography management software or switching to a new tool.

It is open to French- and English-speakers and will take place remotely via Microsoft Teams.

  • Remote training: PubMed/My NCBI, Thursday September 21, 2023 from 2 to 5pm* (in French)

Anyone can find their way around the basics of PubMed, but we are offering you the chance to go further by getting to know the ins and outs of the tool and making the best use of the features and tips available. You will learn about all the possibilities related to your personal My NCBI account.

Aims of the training:

•    Master the features of PubMed
•    Evaluate the relevance of results by interpreting the search strategy applied by PubMed
•    Customize PubMed features by creating and configuring a My NCBI account to set up automatic alerts, use custom filters and save results in your own space
 
This training session is aimed at anyone who has to perform searches in PubMed.

The training is aimed at beginners, those who already know how to find their way around PubMed and those with more advanced knowledge of the tool.
 
It will take place remotely (via Microsoft Teams) in French.

  • In-person training – Introduction to alternative forms of open access publication, Friday September 22, 2023 from 2-4.30pm* (in French)

Do you want to publish your research transparently and facilitate reproducibility?

There are a number of alternative formats to traditional research articles, such as executable papers, data papers, software papers, lab protocols and registered reports. And to find your way around these different publication types and understand the differences between them, why not come to a training session on the topic!

This training session will help you:
•    Familiarize yourself with five alternative forms of open access publication;
•    Understand how these publication types support open, reproducible science;
•    Choose the publication type that is best suited to your needs.

The maximum number of participants is 12; spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Zotero is a free open-source bibliography management application.
Learn how you can use this software to manage your bibliographical references in a simple, intuitive way – and find out what sets it apart from other tools.

Aims of the training:

•    Import references
•    Manage references
•    Insert references in a Word document
•    Share references with the Groups function

This training session is aimed at anyone who needs to manage or format bibliographical references and more generally wants to find out how Zotero works.

It will take place remotely (via Microsoft Teams) in English.

An attendance certificate will be provided on request.
