First call for proposals for the French 3Rs Center (FC3R)

The use of animals for scientific purposes is based on the "3Rs" principle – replacement, reduction, refinement – to guide research and promote responsible, innovative methods. In November 2021, a group of research stakeholders in France composed of Inserm, the CNRS, INRAE, Inria, the CEA, the Institut Pasteur in Paris, the CPU and the Udice Group, announced the establishment of the French 3Rs Center (FC3R) to support the application of rules based on the 3Rs principle.

The center was established on the initiative of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation as a Scientific Interest Group (GIS). It has been tasked with ambitious missions and given considerable resources so that it will be recognized in France and Europe as a leader and a point of contact for all matters related to the 3Rs in public and private research.

On 1 September, the FC3R launched its first call for proposals, "The 3Rs in France: Collective initiatives and collaborative tools," with the aim of providing financial support for future or current French projects to reduce or replace the use of animals in laboratories, or to improve (refine) their living and experimental conditions, by developing tools for collaboration and sharing.

Grant: up to €50,000 per project
