Job shadowing at the Institut Pasteur for middle school students: host one or two students in your lab to help them explore potential careers

Once again this year, the Education Department is running its dedicated program for middle school students, entitled Collège3.

For this new edition, the Institut Pasteur will be opening its doors to fourth-year middle school students (aged 14-15) for their job shadowing assignment over the following periods:

•    Week 1: December 15 to 19, 2025
•    Week 2: February 16 to 20, 2026

Registration is only possible via the link on the Collège3 page

Given the limited number of spaces (45 students per session) and the high number of applications (more than 500), the Collège3 team reserves the right to consider only the first 150 applications received. For applications that are not among the first 150, an email will be sent to the applicant notifying them that their application has not been accepted. The Collège3 team is aware of how difficult it is to find placements for your children. Feel free to contact the team via college3@pasteur.fr to explore possibilities for placements at the Institut Pasteur.

However, the Collège3 team would like to stress that it is keen to open the Institut Pasteur to students without any links to staff, and we would ask for your understanding and support in this matter.

Becoming a supervisor for one or more students

Whether you host one or two students, the workload is the same for the supervisor, and this can be a way for the Institut Pasteur to accept more students. Students can only be hosted if there is a supervisor willing and able to host them.
The Collège3 team needs scientists to step up and volunteer to host students in their lab so that the Institut Pasteur can offer placements.

We would remind you that, to facilitate the job shadowing scheme, all the administrative procedures and the general organization of the week – which includes campus tours and activities – are dealt with by the Collège3 team in the Department of Education. The students spend just half of their time in scientific units; the rest of the time is spent attending the various activities arranged for them as part of the program, which are designed to give them an introduction to the field of biology research, related professions, the day-to-day running of the Institut Pasteur and all its work in France and worldwide.
