Job shadowing at the Institut Pasteur for middle school students: host one or two interns in your lab to help them explore potential careers

Once again this year, the Education Department is running its dedicated program for middle school students, entitled Collège3.

For this new edition, the Institut Pasteur will be opening its doors to fourth-year middle school students (aged 14-15) for their job shadowing assignment over the following periods:

  • December 14 to 18, 2026
  • February 1 to 5, 2027

Whether you host one or two students, the workload is the same for the supervisor, and this can be a way for the Institut Pasteur to accept more students.

Please note, however, that students can only be hosted if there is a supervisor willing and able to host them. The Collège3 team needs scientists to step up and volunteer to host students in their lab so that the Institut Pasteur can offer placements.

Any Institut Pasteur staff wishing to put forward candidates can only apply via this link.

This is an internal link that must not be shared externally. It has been create to facilitate applications to host the children of Institut Pasteur staff.

As the number of spaces on the program is limited to 45 per session and we receive huge numbers of applications, only the first 150 external applications will be considered. An email will be sent to all applicants from the 151st application onwards informing them that they have been refused. If your application is not in the first 150, you can contact college3@pasteur.fr to explore possibilities for placements at the Institut Pasteur.

The Collège3 team is a team of colleagues working on a voluntary basis who are keen to open the Institut Pasteur to students without any links to staff, and we would ask for your understanding and support in this matter.

All the administrative procedures and the general organization of the week – which includes campus tours and activities – are dealt with by the Collège3 team in the Department of Education. The students spend just half of their time in scientific units; the rest of the time is spent attending the various activities arranged for them as part of the program, which are designed to give them an introduction to the field of biology research, related professions, the day-to-day running of the Institut Pasteur and all its work in France and worldwide.

Interns can also be hosted outside the program in the usual conditions (see details here).
