PPU: opening the call for the next doctoral cohort

The international doctoral program Pasteur-Paris University (PPU) is now launching its call for projects for the next cohort, open from June 22 to September 14, 2026. Developed by the Institut Pasteur in partnership with Université Paris Cité, Sorbonne Université and Université Paris-Saclay, the program offers future PhD students an international, demanding and well-structured research environment.

Laboratories wishing to propose a thesis project may submit their application on the dedicated platform PPU platform.

The projects collected through this call will then feed the student recruitment process according to the program timeline. As in previous years, selection will take place in several stages, from project review to final interviews naux du 2 au 5 mars 2027.

PPU is open to projects led by scientists holding an HDR and affiliated with a partner doctoral school. Applicant laboratories must be based at the Institut Pasteur and follow the rules of their doctoral school regarding the number of students they can supervise.

The program is divided into several tracks, allowing doctoral training to be tailored to the nature of each project:

  • Classic PPU
  • PPU-Oxford
  • PPU-EID
  • PPU-IMAGINE
  • PPU-Research & Technology
  • PPU-Participatory Science
  • PPU-MD-PhD

These tracks share a common training and mentoring framework while offering specific scientific environments and objectives:

  • PPU-Oxford focuses on antimicrobial resistance,
  • PPU-EID is dedicated to emerging infectious diseases,

  • PPU-Research & Technology supports projects built around a technology platform,

  • PPU-Participatory Science highlights public involvement in research,

  • PPU-MD-PhD strengthens the bridge between medicine and research.

Eligibility criteria vary depending on the selected track:

For the Classic PPU, as well as PPU-Oxford, PPU-EID and PPU-IMAGINE, candidates must hold a master’s degree, or equivalent, awarded by a university outside France at the time they enter the program. The PPU-Research & Technology, PPU-Participatory Science and PPU-MD-PhD tracks are open to candidates holding either a French or international degree, according to the specific criteria of each track.

The program is conducted in English and requires a good command of the language.

Doctoral students recruited through PPU are employed by the Institut Pasteur for three years. The program includes a monthly gross salary of 2,500 euros and a gross welcome bonus of 4,000 euros, as well as administrative support and scientific and professional training.
