Upcoming Education Webinar on May 20: "How to Launch Searches during an Outbreak” with Michael Casera

The Education Department is pleased to invite you to a new webinar in its “Education Webinars” series, devoted to a key issue in public health and research: "How to Launch Searches during an Outbreak”

How can we respond to an emergency while still collecting data in an ethical and coordinated way so that it can later be published? This webinar will offer practical insights into field challenges, stakeholder relationships, and the organization needed to carry out research in an outbreak setting.

During this talk, you will learn about:

  • the rapid establishment and coordination of epidemiological surveillance systems,

  • stakeholder relations during an outbreak, including non-governmental organizations, governments and researchers,

  • the challenges encountered, which vary according to the pathogen and its mode of transmission,

  • practical advice on how to organize data collection and successfully carry out research.

Michael Casera is an intervention epidemiologist and the Coordinator of the Outbreak Investigation Task Force at Institut Pasteur. With 15 missions conducted with Médecins Sans Frontières on outbreaks of cholera, measles, diphtheria and dengue, he bridges operational epidemiology and applied research. He is also deeply involved in training and mentoring, and will share his field experience gained in several crisis-affected settings, including Haiti, Sudan, South Sudan and Gaza.

The webinar will be held in French, online via Zoom, on May 20, 2026, at 2pm.
