Message from Yasmine Belkaid, President of the Institut Pasteur
Read the message from Yasmine Belkaid, President of the Institut Pasteur,
"Dear Pasteurians,
I joined the Institut Pasteur two years ago , entrusted with helping to shape its future, driven by ambitious goals commensurate with what our institute represents and deserves: to be one of the world’s leading research institutes, to embody free and independent science in the service of society, and to play a full role within a European and international community of excellence.
Two years later, I remain deeply committed to these ambitions, while fully aware of your desire for change, but also your wish to preserve certain foundations and unique qualities that make the strength of the Institut Pasteur.
I firmly believe that every step forward counts, and I can already see how far we have come together over the past two years.
I am also fully aware of the work that remains and of the scale of the challenges we face in safeguarding our institute in an unstable and volatile international context, where science is often under pressure.
The purpose of this message is to share our successes and challenges, but also to highlight the collective, often behind-the-scenes work that is enabling us to strengthen our foundations and chart a course toward inspiring forward-looking perspectives for the future.
Year after year, we can take pride in seeing the recognition of Pasteur excellence continue to grow.
Several results from 2025 confirm this strong momentum:
Increase in research funding: the number of grants and awards secured by our scientific teams in 2025 was exceptional — with 245 funded projects in 2025, 33 more than in 2024 and 76 more than in 2023.
A record year for public generosity: nearly 200,000 donors supported the Institut Pasteur, and Pasteurdon saw another year of growth. We are also diversifying our funding base, with several new private donors and a 50% increase in our international philanthropy, particularly in the United States.
Increased international visibility:
o Our funding from the Gates Foundation has increased two-and-a-half-fold over the past two years,
o Nos financements obtenus auprès de la fondation Gates ont été multipliés par 2,5 ces deux dernières années ;
o Ambitious new partnerships are being developed with Oxford, EMBL, and, of course, our partners in the Pasteur Network.An Institute that is more visible and engaged with the general public than ever before:
o A 13% increase in the media presence of our institute and its representatives in 2025.
This excellence is not something we can take for granted: we have a duty to prepare for the future by nurturing it through our collective commitment."
