Antibiotic resistance could cause more than 10 million deaths a year by 2050. To identify new effective molecules, scientists at the Pasteur Institute have trained an artificial intelligence system to recognise how antibiotics work, using only images of bacteria taken under a microscope, without any fluorescent chemical labelling.
