"Art and Science" lecture: "The superpowers of the microbes living within us," with Yasmine Belkaid and Hervé Di Rosa, on May 5

The Institut Pasteur is pleased to invite you to a scientific lecture aimed at the general public, entitled "The superpowers of the microbes living within us," with Yasmine Belkaid, President of the Institut Pasteur, accompanied by live performance art from leading contemporary artist Hervé di Rosa.
The event, supported by the Department of Communications and Public Affairs and the Department of Philanthropy and organized with the Department for Scientific Programming and Incentive Actions (in the Scientific Affairs Division), will take place on Tuesday May 5 at 6pm in the Émile Duclaux lecture hall. It will be hosted in French by Aude Bernheim and Olivier Schwartz, coordinators of Scientific Priority 1, "Infectious disease threats" in the Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan.

The aim of the event is to share with the public some of the recent discoveries about the microbiome, the complex of microorganisms that live in and on us and play a key role in our health.
Yasmine Belkaid will address the following questions: What is the microbiome? How do the bacteria that compose the microbiome interact with our organs and our immune system? What impact does diet have? What does the skin microbiome do? Why are these microorganisms essential for maintaining homeostasis and protecting us from certain diseases?
Hervé Di Rosa will respond to Yasmine Belkaid's words in real time by producing paintings and drawings that offer a sensitive, creative visual impression of this invisible microscopic world.
Their joint presentation, combining art and science, will last for around an hour and will be followed by a discussion session with the audience.
The event is free but prior registration is required for logistical and security reasons.
