In late 2023, in connection with the Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan, the INVOLvE platform in the Medical Department launched “COSIPOP”  —a cohort of volunteers from the general population who are in good overall health—to collect human samples and clinical data for preliminary research. This cohort is currently composed of 164 people.

The samples and data collected via this cohort are used for:

  • Preliminary research, in other words research aimed at testing a scientific theory, demonstrating a concept, assessing the practical feasibility of a study or generating initial results;

  • The development of novel techniques or comparisons of methods, especially for the purposes of developing new diagnostic tests (to identify diseases) or prognostic tests (to predict disease outcomes);

  • Cultures of living microorganisms used in experimental research, such as the parasite Plasmodium falciparum, responsible for severe forms of malaria;

  • Practical teaching sessions for analyzing human samples.

Since 2023, 48 research projects have been supported by COSIPOP: 14 have been completed, 32 are in progress, and 2 are ready to begin.

Biological resources available to the scientific community

Various types of blood and non-blood samples can be collected through COSIPOP and are available very quickly after collection.

In addition, information regarding donor characteristics (medical information or lifestyle-related information) can be provided.

For the Institut Pasteur teams, access to COSIPOP is free, and a simplified procedure has been put in place.

A need for volunteers to expand the cohort

Any adults in good overall health who do not work with human samples and are available on an occasional basis can become COSIPOP volunteers.

Up to 500 people can join the cohort.
