The Institut Pasteur and the CNRS launch a joint call for a research group on artificial intelligence in genomics

Artificial intelligence (AI) is now establishing itself as an essential tool for understanding biological complexity. True to its pioneering role, the Institut Pasteur integrated AI into its research projects at a very early stage, particularly with regard to the analysis of microscope images. The Institut Pasteur has thus created the conditions for placing AI at the heart of its computational biology strategy. The Pasteur 2030 strategic plan will reinforce this approach by deploying deep learning and AI across all of the Institute's research themes.

One of the objectives of the strategic plan is to deepen partnerships in order to strengthen the key areas of expertise and research themes that underpin our 2030 vision. This is particularly the case with the CNRS for artificial intelligence.

The Institut Pasteur has long had close links with the CNRS, as seen in the 11 joint research units on the Institut Pasteur campus, which are together comprised of a total of 80 research entities, representing more than half of all the Institut Pasteur's research entities.

This year, as the two institutions continue to strengthen their long-standing partnership, they are launching a joint call for the establishment of a research group on artificial intelligence in genomics. This new team will boost the Institut Pasteur's existing expertise in the field of AI, one of the scientific priorities identified in the Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan.

The call for applications, which will run until January 12, 2026, is aimed at experienced scientists with a strong background in biomathematics, biophysics and/or computer science, and skills in AI/ML (machine learning) in the fields of genomic organization, evolutionary genetics, biological sequence analysis, function prediction, sequence design and metagenomics.

Following a selection process in which the Institut Pasteur and CNRS will be closely involved, the selected candidate will be appointed as a CNRS Director of Research and tasked with forming a research group at the Institut Pasteur within the Computational Biology Department.
