"Ludwig's resonance": combining music and science to enable both deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing people to appreciate music

The Orchestre de chambre de Paris is pursuing its artistic and civic engagement by joining forces with the Institut Pasteur and the Institut reConnect to launch an innovative project combining artistic creation, scientific research and social innovation. The aim is to enable deaf and hearing people to share the power and emotion of music, creating new possibilities for making music more accessible.

The project involves musicians, scientists, hearing specialists and experts in digital technologies, together with charities and those directly affected. Together, they will explore new ways of writing, orchestrating and perceiving music aimed at reinventing the traditional concert format and sharing the listening experience.

Throughout 2026, creative workshops, orchestration sessions and "concert laboratories" will offer opportunities to experiment with these approaches in real-life conditions. A first major event will take place on June 21, 2027 with a concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, attended by both deaf and hearing people. This highly symbolic and significant event will coincide with the bicentenary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death.
