Report on the shoots for the Pasteurdon 2026 short films

From June 8 to 11, the François Jacob building on the rue du Docteur Roux campus opened its doors to film crews who had come to shoot the new short films for the 20th anniversary of Pasteurdon. For this anniversary edition, a new director, Serge Khalfon, took the reins, with several Institut Pasteur scientists featuring alongside representatives of the media outlets that partner with the campaign.

Pasteurdon is known for its inspirational short films, designed to raise awareness among the general public of the vital role of research in improving health. These short clips, featuring top journalists and presenters from our partner digital terrestrial network and France TV channels, are an impactful, effective way of delivering messages and bringing home the challenges of research to the public. They will be broadcast throughout Pasteurdon weekend, from October 9 to 11.

Over five days, with the François Jacob building serving as an authentic film set and with the continued support of the team in the Ultrastructural BioImaging core facility led by Adeline Mallet, the 2026 films came to life under the expert guidance of the director and his camera and crew. From June 8 to 11, all the representatives of our partner TV channels – at least 20 in total – took to the Institut Pasteur film set to speak about the three major themes of Pasteurdon 2026, each time from two different angles:

  • les cancers: improving understanding of resistance to immunotherapy and explaining the aggressive nature of certain cases of postpartum breast cancer

  • infectious disease threats: developing "virtual bacteria" to better tackle infection and working towards a permanent cure for HIV

  • neurological diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders: understanding the genetic basis for autism and exploring the dialog between the brain and microbiota in Alzheimer's disease

Six scientists in turn formed duos with representatives of TV channels to speak about the breakthroughs and discoveries made over the past 20 years in their area of expertise. They also shared their hopes for the future and discussed emerging treatments related to their ongoing research. Thomas Bourgeron, Aurélie Chiche, Marion Guérin, Pierre-Marie Llédo, Erneste Mordret and Asier Saez-Cirion each featured in turn alongside the presenters and journalists: Julien Arnaud (BFM TV), Damien Coquet (France 24), Adeline François (LCP), Alain Marschall et Olivier Truchot (RMC Story), Cécile Mathias (CSTAR), Christophe Beaugrand (Groupe TF1), Julien Rifflet (BFM Locales), Stéphanie Couleau (BFM Business), Rebecca Fitoussi (Public Sénat), Thibault Gauthier (Le Figaro TV), Mathieu Croissando (T18), Claire Arnoux (Novo19), Jimmy Mohamed (France Télévisions), Dominique Rizet (RMC Découverte), Romain Desarbres (CNews), Ashley Chevalier (M6-W9-6ter), France Pierron (la chaîne L'Équipe), Marie-Aline Meliyi (LCI), Loan Faggianelli (Gulli), AÏda Touihri (RMC Life).

The films, which will be broadcast by each channel in accordance with the topic or topics they have chosen to focus on, are also an opportunity to highlight the ongoing need for support for research and appeal to the public for donations.

You can check out the films for yourselves in October – make sure you don't miss them!
