Energy saving measures: hot drinks dispensers in sleep mode from April 7
As part of the Institut Pasteur's energy saving strategy, the General Services Department would like to inform you that the automatic hot drinks dispensers will be put into sleep mode every evening from 9pm to 6am, from April 7 onwards.
During these hours, the dispensers will not be available, except for those in the following locations:
Duclaux building, ground floor
The 25
François Jacob building – R3 cafeteria
We would like to thank you for your cooperation. Please contact us if you require any further information.
In connection with this new measure, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR/RSE) Department is asking you to make sure you turn off all the devices that can be turned off before you leave work in the evening. Many devices consume electricity even when not in use. Switching them off rather than leaving them in sleep mode is an easy way to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.
In offices, computers, screens, printers and chargers can be turned off at the end of the day. A computer and screen left on for no reason can consume up to 300 kWh per year.*
In laboratories, some equipment in particular uses a huge amount of energy. -80°C freezers, for example, use as much energy as an entire home. Contact the FreezeClean teams to find out more. The GreenTeam also has some best practices to help reduce our environmental impact.
In France, every kWh saved prevents the emission of around 40 to 60g of CO₂ (sources: RTE and ADEME). Over an entire building or campus, these simple changes have a real impact.
* According to ADEME, a desktop computer uses approximately 120 to 250 kWh each year, with an additional 20 to 100 kWh for the screen. So a computer workstation left on all the time can represent around 300 kWh of electricity per year.
