The Institut Pasteur's involvement in EURAXESS: promoting international scientific excellence

In 2017, the Institut Pasteur became the first French research institute to join the EURAXESS network, a European Commission initiative to promote international mobility and career development for researchers. This pioneering decision reflected the values and priorities of an institution that places science and scientists at the forefront of its mission.

How does this affect you?

Recruit scientists from across the globe

Publishing vacancies on EURAXESS Jobs enables you to tap into international talent and widen your pool of applications, especially for PhD and postdoctoral positions. It also confirms that the Institut Pasteur's recruitment processes are in line with the highest international standards.

For your information: publishing vacancies on EURAXESS Jobs is now a regulatory requirement for recruitments linked to research projects (decree 2023-1321 dated December 27, 2023).

Access the tutorial for a step-by-step guide to publishing job vacancies on EURAXESS Jobs.

How does EURAXESS make it easier to host international scientists?

Hosting international talent goes far beyond the initial recruitment – it's about creating an environment in which the scientist (and their family) can settle and thrive.

The EURAXESS network shares best practices for welcoming scientists, effective onboarding and career development, including supporting spouses.

In practice: Before and during their stay, staff can contact the EURAXESS Access Center at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (CIUP), which offers international researchers practical help with administrative procedures and settling in Paris.

How does this make the Institut Pasteur more attractive?

  • Boosting the Institut Pasteur's competitiveness on the European stage

Being part of EURAXESS is part of a broader ambition, namely the EU's HR Excellence in Research award, which is given to institutions whose working environment is in line with European standards on recruiting and supporting researchers and providing them with suitable working conditions.

This award gives the Institut Pasteur a competitive edge in calls for proposals and sends a strong signal to the international scientific community.

See this interactive timeline to find out more about the HR Excellence in Research award, the people involved and the various milestones since it was rolled out in March 2020.

  • Attracting the best talent and supporting career development

The Career Development Service for Scientists (CARE) plays a key part in these efforts and is recognized by the European Commission as a Career Development Center (CDC). The award reflects the quality of the Institut Pasteur's tailored support, designed to help each and every scientist, from PhD students and postdoctoral fellows to more experienced researchers, in developing their career. And since building the future of science involves looking after the scientists of today, this support is part of a fair and inclusive strategy open to all.

Institut Pasteur and CARE: recognized leadership in France and Europe

  • Institut Pasteur: a longstanding member of the EURAXESS network

On January 20, the Institut Pasteur had the honor of hosting the EURAXESS France National Days, attended by representatives from the 53 French EURAXESS centers.

This was the first time that the event had been held in Paris outside the CIUP – a sign of recognition for the key role played by the Institut Pasteur in the national network.

  • CARE: coordinating a European community of practice

At European level, the CARE Department coordinates a community of practice of 21 professionals from leading institutions like EMBL. They work together to share and co-develop future best practices involving mentoring programs, scientific leadership development and career support strategies, all of which can foster strong and lasting collaboration between major institutions at European level.

With its commitment to EURAXESS, the Institut Pasteur is actively involved in shaping international standards. It is this ambition that makes our institute a place where world-class talent chooses to come and advance science.
