Using and wearing your badge on and off campus: a reminder of best practices
"Your badge – your essential campus companion!"
Although primarily designed as a means of controlling access, staff badges also simplify life on campus – they give you access to premises and can be used in restaurants and to borrow books from the library. Your badge includes a small number of essential details used to identify you: your first name, last name, photograph and a QR code.
As soon as you arrive at the Institut Pasteur, regardless of the campus you will be working on (12th or 15th arrondissement), you will be given your access badge, which will remain valid until you leave the institute. It is an essential companion for your daily life on campus – but the system only works if staff adhere to some basic rules, which the Security Department would like to remind you of.
• Best practices on the Institut Pasteur campus(es)
Before coming onto campus, make sure you have your badge with you. Your badge is only for you to use – it should never be used by anyone else, and you should wear it so that it is visible as soon as you enter campus.
→ Wear it, don't share it – it is your "open sesame" all day long on campus.
Misusing your badge, such as trying to sneak a second person through the turnstile or lending it to a colleague who has forgotten theirs, can have various consequences:
→ Giving unauthorized people access to restricted areas,
→ Allowing unauthorized people to access campus,
→ Theft, sabotage and damage,
→ Risk of major malicious acts, including terrorism.
• If you forget or lose your badge
If you forget your badge, don't panic – simply go to one of the reception areas and you will be given a QR code that you can use to access campus. But you will not be able to enter buildings or your office and/or laboratory, so you will have to make sure you are with someone else.
If you lose your badge, for example if you leave it in a taxi or on the metro, take quick action and notify reception immediately. Your badge will be deactivated and you will be given a new one.
By reporting the loss immediately, you will reduce the risk of fraudulent use.
Dial 7000 or +33 (0)1 86 46 70 00 to report the loss of your badge.
• Best practices when you leave the Institut Pasteur campus:
When you leave the Institut Pasteur, make sure you:
- remove your badge,
- remain discreet,
- put your badge away in a secure pocket or bag.
If you wear your badge visibly on a lanyard when off campus, it shows to passers-by that you work at the Institut Pasteur and may lead to confidentiality issues.
The risks may include:
• Reputational damage
• Defamation and slander
• Risk of interference and malicious acts targeting the institution and/or your private life
• A loss of confidentiality, information or data
The Security Department would like to thank you for your understanding in complying with these best practices.
