Just over a year back, the World Health Organisation declared COVID-19 a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern”. The COVID-19 pandemic, an extraordinary one-in-a-century event, has devastated health services, shut down schools and societies, and plunged the world into an economic recession. While 2020 was a challenging year, 2021 looks to be even more difficult with the emergence of multiple variants, creating a cat-and-mouse game between the race to vaccinate the world, and the pathogen’s constant evolution to evade immunity. What marks the path to the end of this pandemic?
