Check out the first Hearing Institute Annual Report

The Hearing Institute in central Paris, set up on the basis of a partnership between the Fondation Pour l'Audition, the Institut Pasteur and Inserm, is France's first research institute dedicated to hearing.

It was officially opened in February 2020 by French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, a few months after an inaugural international scientific conference at the Collège de France, and it now houses seven teams and two research groups, with a total of more than 100 people pursuing its three missions:

•    to carry out top-level basic research;
•    to develop translational approaches;
•    to transfer scientific knowledge.

The institute has five technological platforms and also a Center for Research and Innovation in Human Audiology (CERIAH), which develops innovative diagnostic methods. The teams work in cooperation with ENT departments in the Paris Public Hospital Network (AP-HP, in particular Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital) and university hospitals elsewhere in France (including Lyon, Clermont-Ferrand and Bordeaux), and with other hearing health professionals, especially hearing aid specialists.

Despite the particularly complex and difficult health context in 2020, the teams and management of the Hearing Institute were able to adapt and adjust to the unexpected circumstances, to collaborate effectively and find the energy, dynamism and resourcefulness they needed to get the institute up and running. The work of the Hearing Institute is now based around its dedicated community of scientists, who are keen to initiate and pursue a variety of research projects and to organize seminars and other scientific events.

The first Hearing Institute Annual Report for the year 2020, which reflects the energy and drive of all those involved in the institute, is now available online. Feel free to download it and check out the key statistics, highlights from the inauguration of the institute, the technological platforms and research teams, key events and achievements for each research field, governance, resources and scientific publications.
