Company set-up

Upcoming "Start-up breakfast" session on March 22

The next Start-up breakfast will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 9 am via Teams and  in room 28-01-01B of the François Jacob building, with Clément Dubois and Maurice Lubetzki as guest.

Clément and Maurice are co-founders of EpiLAB. EpiLAB is a company that develops and sells a portable tuberculosis diagnosis kit to help health organizations fight TB.
Clément is a French engineer and entrepreneur. He studied Biology, Medical biotechnologies, and Entrepreneurship in Ecole Centrale Paris from 2016 to 2020. Maurice got his Master’s degree in Science in Mechanical engineering from Arts et Métiers Paris Tech in 2019 and another Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Operations Research from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2022.

Clément decided to develop a technology to tackle a major health issue after an experience in the US with the start-up Ubees, developing and deploying beekeeping sensors to put in hives. After searching for a significant breakthrough and contacting scientists Clément met Elodie Barbier, Ph.D., and Murielle Rochelet, Ph.D., who patented a new scientific process to detect mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria responsible for Tuberculosis, the first infectious cause of death in the world. The innovation of Clément  and Maurice was to transfer the technology of Murielle and Elodie into a portable test that can be easily used everywhere. It can radically help to diagnose and thus eradicate one of the oldest infectious diseases known in humans.

The team of four decided to create EpiLAB during the summer 2020.
Today, ten employees composed of engineers and scientists are working for EpiLAB in Ecole Polytechnique, in CNR (National Center of Reference) de mycobactéries in hospital Bichat, and INRAe in Dijon. Maurice is managing the company as a CEO and operating projects. Clément is leading the R&D and technical work, and the regulatory issues of the company.

EpiLAB is working on developing the first point-of-care diagnostic kit to address one of the global health issues using patented technology based on microbiology, electrochemistry, and microfluidics. This solution is the first screening kit to be portable, rapid, reliable, and inexpensive.

If you wish to share and discuss with the young talented entrepreneurs about the journey of their startup creation, please join the meeting.
