Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
Save the date of May 23 to take part in the symposium entitled "Microbes and Mitochondria," at which several scientific experts will share the latest advances in this research field as a way of paying tribute to the young Institut Pasteur scientist Fabrizia Stavru, who died before her time in 2021.
The symposium will take place from 10am to 5pm in the Émile Duclaux lecture hall. It is being organized by Pascale Cossart, Simonetta Gribaldo and Timothy Wai, with the support of the Department of Cell Biology and Infection and the Department of Microbiology and their respective directors, Marc Lecuit and Fréderic Barras.
The program includes three sessions that will shine a light on current knowledge about mitochondria, from metabolic analysis and interactions with certain bacteria to specific genetic diseases. The symposium will feature presentations from internationally renowned Institut Pasteur and external scientists.
Several of them had the opportunity to meet or work with Fabrizia Stavru, a scientist who worked in the Bacteria-Cell Interactions Unit led by Pascale Cossart. Her research on Listeria and Midichloria mitochondrii, the only intramitochondrial bacterium, led to her receiving two highly prestigious honors in 2017, firstly the Human Frontier Science Program Young Investigator Grant (see the newsletter on April 7, 2017) and then the Sanofi-Institut Pasteur Award in the "National Junior" category (see the newsletter on November 24, 2017).
Participation in the symposium and the lunch that will take place in the hall of the François Jacob building is open to all, but registration is required – please email Caroline Binet at caroline.binet@pasteur.fr
