From July 23 to 26, 2017, Paris will be hosting the 9th International AIDS Society Conference (IAS 2017), the flagship event in the combat against the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As part of the build-up to this high-level meeting between leading specialists, several events geared towards the public are being held, and various programs have been launched in the French capital in a bid to step up efforts to eliminate the virus. The Institut Pasteur will be getting involved in these events.
The aim of the IAS 2017 international conference is to boost technologies for the prevention and detection of HIV infection, with the ultimate aim of eliminating the epidemic. Several programs have been launched in the host city, Paris, to help work towards this aim. Paris City Council is running a campaign to increase the visibility of its "Paris without AIDS" program, which involves a number of Institut Pasteur scientists. The aim is to inform target communities about the HIV screening and treatment facilities that are available for them.

Before the IAS Conference, the public had the opportunity to hear from leading French HIV specialists in a series of events. The Solidays festival hosted several presentations:
"Eliminating HIV: The challenges facing research", with Anne-Sophie Beignon (CEA), Asier Saez Cirion (Institut Pasteur) and Yazdan Yazdanpanah (Inserm, AP-HP) ;
"PrEP, TasP and PEP: How research can help prevention", with Joseph Larmarange (IRD) and Jean-Michel Molina (AP-HP) ;
"2030: The end of AIDS?", with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi.
The Institut Pasteur is strongly committed to this research field and to the fight against AIDS. It will be hosting the conference "VIH/sida, succès et prochaines avancées de la recherche !" on its campus at 6pm on July 12, with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Pierre-Marie Girard (AP-HP), Asier Saez-Cirion, Nicoletta Casartelli and Mathurin Tejiokem (Pasteur Center and ANRS site in Cameroon).
Finally, there will be a French stand during IAS 2017 at the Palais des Congrès from July 23 to 26. The stand will showcase specific examples of how France is committed to the aim of eradicating HIV. Debates will be held every day and broadcast online. Institut Pasteur representatives will be available at the stand to discuss the latest progress in research.
