"Empty but still active!": Don't forget the Museum Open Day for staff on Friday September 15

The Pasteur Museum team is delighted to invite staff to come and see the museum in a whole new light on Friday September 15. This is an opportunity to visit the site one last time before the restoration work begins. A series of events and activities will be organized for the occasion, in conjunction with European Heritage Days 2023.

The Open Day is free but registration is required for some events.

 

 

Program

 

Opportunity to visit the empty museum, the Salle des Actes, the crypt, the halls, the billiard room and the rooms used by Louis Pasteur's associates.

12 noon to 5pm – The museum will be open to visitors (no registration required).
 

Museum attic sale.

12 noon to 5pm in the first-floor hall of the historical building. No registration required
 

"History of the Institut Pasteur's architectural heritage" – lecture by Michel Borjon, President of GRAHAL (Art, History, Architecture & Literature Research Group), and Léo Janin, GRAHAL research manager.

12 noon to 1pm – Salle des Actes
 

Presentation of the museum project by Laurence Isnard, Head of the Pasteur Museum, followed by a question and discussion session.

2 to 3pm – Salle des Actes

 

Guided tour of the Institut Pasteur's historical building by tour guide Chantal Pflieger based on the 1888 maps that were published in the magazine La Nature.

Session 1: 11am to 12 noon – Historical building

Session 2: 3 to 4pm – Historical building – Registration required
 

Performance of the play "Alexandre Yersin. The man who conquered the plague" (in French). Théâtre de l'Île d’Amour theater troupe

From 1885 to 1898, the extraordinary adventures of a little-known Institut Pasteur scientist who was involved in one of the key scientific milestones in the history of humanity: the microbiological revolution. From Paris, where he met Louis Pasteur and Émile Roux, to Canton (Guangzhou), where he saved a young man named Tisé from plague, Alexandre Yersin's journey was full of danger and humanity.

The performance will be followed by a discussion session with the stage director, the actors and Christian Demeure, a scientist in the Institut Pasteur's Yersinia Unit.

The registration-only events are already full; please accept our apologies. The rooms used for these events are relatively small and so numbers are limited. The presentations and audio recordings of the lectures will be shared in a future issue of the newsletter, together with a report on the event.

The Open Day will involve a range of activities throughout the afternoon. Please let your team leader know which sessions you are planning to attend in advance to make sure that work can continue as normal on campus.
