Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
For 17 years now, the Institut Pasteur has run Pasteurdon, its annual campaign to raise funds and awareness among the general public in a bid to rise to the challenges facing global health. Pasteurdon 2023 provides a further opportunity to share the quality, diversity and progress of the Institut Pasteur's research with the general public. It is also a key part of ongoing efforts to raise funds for the research carried out by the Institut Pasteur's scientists.
This year's edition, with the theme "Research is part of us," will showcase scientific progress in several areas. Each of these research priorities, in line with the research areas and initiatives in the Strategic Plan, all feature on the main campaign visual, which encapsulates the importance of research for our common future, especially the very youngest generations, illustrated by a newborn baby.
The research fields are also presented individually in three separate visuals: tackling emerging infectious diseases, cancer research, and research on neurodegenerative diseases, brain connectivity and vaccinology. These are the three major research areas supported by Pasteurdon this year.
This visual showcases the Institut Pasteur's ongoing work to tackle emerging infectious diseases, which has always been part of its mission. This work has continued through multiple generations and remains crucial in a world that is constantly changing, with globalization, human activity and climate change all facilitating the emergence of new pandemic threats.
This poster illustrates cancer research, which at the Institut Pasteur includes both basic and applied research and involves several multidisciplinary teams. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The aim of the Institut Pasteur's research is to achieve an increasingly detailed, precise understanding of the underlying mechanisms so as to optimize existing therapies and develop innovative strategies.
This research area covers the Institut Pasteur's basic research in particular in the fields of neuroscience, genetics, cell and developmental biology, immunology, infection biology and microbiology, to elucidate the complexity of brain function. With the rise in neurodegenerative and brain diseases, increasing research efforts are required.
This year, these three major areas have been selected to showcase the wealth of the Institut Pasteur's research to the general public. Each year, Pasteurdon seeks to raise awareness of the Institut Pasteur's research and to highlight the need for donations to advance knowledge.
