In the lead-up to this new edition of Pasteurdon, several journalists were invited to visit a laboratory on the Institut Pasteur campus on September 14. Twelve journalists came along for the event, including those from AFP, Agence presse médicale, France Info, France Culture, Ouest France, L'Express and Géo. The journalists were invited to visit the National Reference Center on Invasive Mycoses and Antifungals, led by Fanny Lanternier. The theme of fungi was chosen as part of the broader topic of infectious diseases, one of the scientific topics showcased in the 2023 Pasteurdon campaign. Fungal infections represent a growing threat for public health because of the rise in cases, the severity of the diseases they can cause and the potential emergence of resistance to antifungal treatments.

The visit elicited a great deal of interest from the journalists, who took the opportunity to ask the scientists questions and to discuss a topic that many were unfamiliar with. Some of the journalists have already published reports in the media.
