A look back at the event "Empty but still active!": Museum Open Day for staff on Friday September 15

For the 40th edition of European Heritage Days, the Pasteur Museum was opened up one last time before the start of the refurbishment works. This was an opportunity for staff to explore some areas without collections for the first time since the museum first opened.

 

A varied program

Institut Pasteur staff were given the chance to stroll through the empty apartments of Louis and Marie Pasteur. The attic sale organized by the museum gave visitors the opportunity to buy various books, posters and other items related to the history of the Institut Pasteur.  

A guided tour took staff to key parts of the historical Institut Pasteur building, including the Salle des Actes, the billiard room, the former apartment, the halls, the crypt, the rooms used by Louis Pasteur's associates (including Alexandre Yersin's room) and the Rabies Department.  

Two lectures provided information about the ongoing museum project and the history of the Institut Pasteur's architectural heritage. The first, entitled "History of the Institut Pasteur's architectural heritage" was given by Michel Borjon, President of GRAHAL (Art, History, Architecture & Literature Research Group), and Léo Janin, GRAHAL research manager. It was followed by a presentation of the museum project by Laurence Isnard, Head of the Pasteur Museum.  

The Open Day was a resounding success. Proceedings were brought to a close with a performance by actors from the Théâtre de l'Île d’Amour theater troupe of the play "Alexandre Yersin. The man who conquered the plague" (in French).  

 

For those who missed out

•   You can still go on a guided tour of the historical building by contacting tour guide Chantal Pflieger (chantal.pflieger@pasteur.fr). 

•    A small number of items from the attic sale are still available, including postcards, copies of the book marking the centenary of Louis Pasteur's death and posters of the Louis Pasteur portrait by Edelfelt. Feel free to come along and help yourself, the items are available in the hall of the historical building.

•    Two other performances of the play about Alexandre Yersin will be staged this weekend in the Le Magasin theater (144 Avenue Pierre Brossolette, Malakoff), on Saturday September 23 at 8.30pm, and Sunday September 24 at 4pm. To book a seat, please email mick_lebail@hotmail.com.
