Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Hub and the Image Analysis Hub offer courses dedicated primarily to first-year PhD students* of the institute.
In the age of Big Data and computational biology, it is crucial to give biology researchers the foundations of reproducible research: from the design of optimal experiments giving reliable and robust results, to the analysis of their own data in autonomy, while at the same time getting to know the Hub-B&B and Hub-IA engineers on campus.
Courses are organized into modules that last from three hours to three days full time.
Most courses are in English** and the program begins with a one day Common Core module. The first session will take place on October 23rd, 2023 from 9h30 to 17h30 in the Retrovirus room (Lwoff building). The second session will be on February 16th, 2024 (same hours and location). During this first module, a general presentation of the course will be made but above all talks about experimental design, reproducibility, computer science and ethics in science.
Enrolment starts the 1st of October
* Motivated interns, postdocs or engineers are welcomed as well
** The first session of "R and Statistics" will be in French
Note: The teachers of the RS1 module (Initiation to R programming and descriptive statistics, usually taken by a majority of the participants), would like to inform that the autumn session of this module will take place in its on-line format, starting on October the 26th. Under this format, the students are expected to study the course material (and install R and RStudio) in advance, so that the teaching sessions can be devoted to practice and questions.
The delay between the Common Core and the RS1 teaching sessions will unfortunately be too short for the participants to properly organize for the self-study phase. That is why you are kindly asked to anticipate whether you will enroll to RS1, and start the self-study phase in advance if needed.
Study instructions and a link to the course material are available from the following page
