Geneviève Almouzni receives the 2024 L'Oréal - Unesco "For Women in Science" award!

The L'Oréal Foundation and UNESCO recently announced the 2024 winners of the international L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award. Among the five distinguished scientists is Dr Geneviève Almouzni, head of the Chromatin Dynamics team (CNRS / Sorbonne Université) at the Institut Curie, and a member of the Institut Pasteur Board of Governors.

The prize, which recognizes 5 women scientists from 5 continents, is one of the world's most prestigious scientific awards. It is awarded in recognition of the excellence of the laureates' scientific work, but also of their commitment to defending and promoting the role of women in science, a field still largely dominated by men.

Geneviève Almouzni has been singled out for her work, which has led to decisive advances in our understanding of the cellular mechanisms responsible for cancer. Thanks to her research, the disease can now be detected earlier, significantly improving patients' vital prognosis.

Geneviève Almouzni has chosen to spend her entire career in France, and to devote part of her time to sharing science in high schools, particularly with young girls, to develop the confidence they need to embark on a scientific career. This support is crucial to encouraging vocations and increasing the number of female researchers in France.
