A new term for the Institut Pasteur's Research Volunteers Committee

The Institut Pasteur's Research Volunteers Committee (COVOL) was extended for a second term on Monday March 4, 2024.

COVOL, established in December 2021, reflects the determination of the senior management team to strengthen the Institut Pasteur's links with civil society. The committee is composed of members who participate in the Institut Pasteur's research.

Members were initially recruited via cohorts managed by ICAReB-Clin, but the new committee is composed of both existing members and new members from various research projects conducted by the Institut Pasteur, including the Hearing Institute. On Monday March 4, the new members joined the committee, where they will be involved in the work already begun in the previous term.

This year, COVOL will work on improving the information provided to research participants and developing resources that give them the opportunity to share their experiences as research subjects.

Since it was established, COVOL has been involved in various initiatives (VolREthics, the meeting of Institut Pasteur committees, organizing and participating in the conference on "Scientists, physicians and research participants," participation of one member in the Institut Pasteur Ethics Committee (CEIP) and in the SampleAccess Committee for the Institut Pasteur Biological Resource Center (CRBIP)). COVOL also works on various aspects related to informing people about research: it proofreads information documents and recently issued an opinion about presenting general research results to participants.

An Annual Report summarizing the committee's activities over its first term has been published.

The COVOL members remain on hand to support the Institut Pasteur in this ethical practice that is important to participants.

The committee is coordinated by Fanny Momboisse (Ethics Unit) and Rémy Artus (ICAReB-Biobank) as an alternate member, assisted by Lydie Texier (Medical Department).
