Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
For the past 18 years, the Institut Pasteur has run an annual fundraising and communication campaign, Pasteurdon, to raise awareness among the public of the ways in which research can help tackle global health challenges.
This year's Pasteurdon will focus on some of the major questions in biomedical research today:
The central theme of women's health will also run through this year's entire campaign with the aim of raising awareness about a major scientific and societal topic that has been neglected for far too long.
To showcase these key research themes that affect the health of each and every one of us, this year Pasteurdon is proposing a series of five visuals that feature one or more characters in an everyday scene that we can all relate to: parenting, children playing, walking along a street, and a reflection in a mirror.
In urban and rural settings, outside or inside, with soft or bright lighting, in the morning or evening, featuring babies, children, adults and elderly people, these images reflect simple, authentic scenes that need to be "protected" in a permanently changing world, where variations to lifestyle and climate, emerging diseases and new vulnerabilities can lead to health problems for all of us.
Each of these five visuals is associated with research topics that demonstrate the wide-ranging expertise and scope of intervention of the Institut Pasteur, highlighting the importance of its ongoing research and the need for continued public support. Cancer caused by inflammation, diseases associated with climate change, infections during pregnancy, neurodegenerative diseases and vector-borne diseases are some examples of research fields that will be highlighted during this latest edition of Pasteurdon.
And to encourage the public support that is so vital for advancing research, each of these visuals will also feature a sentence explaining the need for donations and calling for action, based around keywords inspired and embodied by the characters on the posters: rooted in "Hope," "Dreams," "Adventures" and "Memories," the Institut Pasteur's research is constantly helping to improve and protect our health.
These five new visuals combine the values, issues and challenges of research, while also appealing for public generosity. You will find the visuals in a variety of spaces and outlets, in various formats from 9 October 9, so keep your eyes peeled!
"Cancer caused by inflammation, diseases associated with climate change and future epidemics" are associated with the need to fight so that life can start off full of HOPE, as in the case of this young father with his newborn baby.
"Infections during pregnancy can have severe and irreversible consequences for mother and child." In light of this reality, we need to push the boundaries of research for a life full of HOPE, as every future mother longs for.
This poster highlights the fact that "Cancer and neurodegenerative diseases are progressing and striking at an ever younger age." Research in these fields aims to advance knowledge and enable everyone, especially young people, to build a life full of DREAMS.
"Diseases transmitted by ticks and mosquitoes are spreading in France and represent a threat to health." In this context, today and for the generations to come – as represented by the two children on this poster –, we need to strengthen our tools to tackle vector-borne diseases so that playing outside in the countryside, by the water's edge and elsewhere can continue as part of a life full of ADVENTURE!
"Cancer, Alzheimer's, COVID-19 – we are not all equal when it comes to disease." Given the realities of our diverse societies, progress in research should enable everyone, and especially some more vulnerable categories of people, to build a life full of MEMORIES.
The health of each individual is grounded in hope, dreams, adventures and memories, and depends on progress in research.
For the 18th edition of Pasteurdon, we can all do our bit to boost research!
