Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
The Amgen Scholars Program, funded by the Amgen Foundation, offers hundreds of students the opportunity to acquire practical research experience at 25 host universities and institutions worldwide.
This year, the Institut Pasteur hosted eleven third-year Bachelor's or first-year Master's students from eight different countries, studying at various European universities, to work on research projects during an eight-week summer internship. The students were generally supervised by postdoctoral fellows or senior PhD students. The research topics were varied, ranging from image analysis using artificial intelligence to projects focusing on parasitology.
The internship also included activities outside the lab, such as a social program to explore Parisian culture, as well as discussions and interactions with Institut Pasteur scientists at dedicated seminars. This was a great opportunity for participants to enjoy new experiences and meet new people.
To close the 2024 Amgen Scholars Program, a ceremony was held at the Institut Pasteur on August 30, attended by Yasmine Belkaid, during which the students presented their research in poster form.
In early September, the eleven students on the Amgen Scholars Program hosted by the Institut Pasteur joined their fellow students from other host universities in Europe, including Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany), the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) and Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (Switzerland), at the annual symposium at the University of Cambridge. The symposium included lectures on scientific topics and round tables about scientific careers. The students also had another opportunity to present their research to the other students on the Amgen Scholars Program.
The aim of the program is to support early career scientists as they gain laboratory experience and to encourage them to pursue a career in research.
