On September 23 and 24, "Goalkeepers 2024: Recipe for Progress", a global annual event organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was held in New York. The event took place during the United Nations General Assembly and paid tribute to remarkable personalities who are advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with solutions to keep people healthy and nourished in a world affected by climate change.
Following the recent publication of the foundation's eighth annual Goalkeepers report, entitled "A Race to Nourish a Warming World", the event featured a wide range of guests from the spheres of science, art, sport and finance with the aim of shedding light on possible ways of improving nutrition, especially for the millions of children at risk of malnutrition.
Yasmine Belkaid, invited to speak at the session on the microbiome and its impact on human health, focused in particular on mother and child health and the importance of the immune system. Yasmine Belkaid is the first Institut Pasteur President invited to speak at this event. She said: "I was honored to participate yesterday in the 2024 edition of the Goalkeepers event at the invitation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, listening to so many inspiring leaders and getting a chance to deliver my vision of how the microbiome and the immune system are determinant in shaping everyone’s health."
