Message from Julian Bugier, ambassador of Pasteurdon 2024

On September 19, Julian Bugier, a journalist for France Télévisions and the ambassador for Pasteurdon 2024, visited the Institut Pasteur campus.

Julian Bugier is particularly aware of the role of science in society and the key part played by scientists in advancing knowledge. He is enthusiastic at the prospect of being involved in Pasteurdon and takes his role as ambassador very seriously. In his own words, "I am very honored to be the new Pasteurdon ambassador. As a journalist in close contact with the French public, as a man and a father, I know just how vital medical research is for our health, as it paves the way for progress in medicine. We are all affected in some way by cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, epidemics and other illnesses, and the Institut Pasteur's scientists are working day in, day out to protect us."

To help Julian Bugier find out more about the Institut Pasteur's research, see what scientists get up to on a daily basis and understand the scale of the health challenges underpinning the many research topics addressed in its laboratories, he came to speak to the teams in the Decision and Bayesian Computation Unit and the National Reference Center for Meningococci and Haemophilus Influenzae on the afternoon of September 19. His visit included a demonstration of 3D computer modeling, an observation of lab work and a presentation of lab equipment, giving him an insight into how research is organized and the opportunity to discuss the interlinked challenges of research and health. The contribution of AI in medical procedures and the current rise in invasive meningococcal infections were fields that particularly piqued the journalist's interest.

Following his laboratory visit, Julian Bugier spoke to Yasmine Belkaid, President of the Institut Pasteur. They discussed the Institut Pasteur's broader scientific priorities and its role in raising awareness among the public and society at large about the importance of science in advancing health.
